International schools around Cascais: where to begin

A school often shapes the rest of a family’s move. These six schools around Cascais and Sintra offer a starting point: compare their programmes, arrange a visit and ask about places for your child’s year group.

Before you arrange a visit

The descriptions draw on each school’s own published information. Use them to prepare a shortlist, then speak to admissions about your child, the right year group and the intended start date.

Ask about language support, fees and the programme your child would actually join. Where published information leaves a question open, we point it out below so you can ask the school directly.

School information checked on 17 September 2026. Reconfirm before making a financial or housing commitment.

St. Julian’s School

Carcavelos · Cascais municipality. Published stages cover ages 3–18; bilingual provision has its own age bands

Ask which pathway fits the child’s current schooling before comparing homes or assuming siblings can enter together.

King’s College School, Cascais

Cascais · confirm the relevant campus entrance. Early years through secondary; confirm the intake year

The curriculum page retains an IB candidate-status caveat alongside senior-programme descriptions. Obtain current programme and authorization confirmation rather than treating these as settled facts.

St. Dominic’s International School

São Domingos de Rana · Cascais municipality. Ages 3–18, as published by the school

For a child changing systems, discuss the transition into the relevant IB programme and the support actually available for that intake.

IPS Cascais British International School

Bicesse / Alcabideche · Cascais municipality. Foundation, primary and secondary; verify the final year offered

Check the full onward pathway as well as this year’s place. A school’s general admissions invitation is not confirmation of an available place.

TASIS Portugal

Linhó / Penaferrim · Sintra municipality. Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12

Treat Sintra as a separate geographic choice. Test the real school run from any coastal home rather than assuming proximity from the regional description.

CAISL — Carlucci American International School of Lisbon

Linhó · Sintra municipality. Elementary Grades 1–5 and High School Grades 9–12 are verified here; ask about other stages

Ask how previous credits and graduation requirements transfer. The school’s Lisbon name does not mean the campus is in Lisbon city.

Questions to ask before putting a school into your brief

Keep children’s names, documents and learning records out of a broad property brief. Initially, a school area, commute limit and space requirements may be enough for a property professional. Send sensitive admissions material directly to the school through its approved channel.

  • Is there a place in the exact year group for the intended start date? What does a waiting-list position mean?
  • Which curriculum and qualification apply to this cohort, rather than a planned future cohort?
  • How is a child arriving from another school system assessed and placed?
  • What English-language or other learning support is actually available, and at what additional cost?
  • Can siblings be accommodated, and would they attend the same campus?
  • Which deposits are refundable, and which costs fall outside published tuition?
  • What transport, after-school and holiday arrangements are available for the relevant age?
  • Who confirms the offer, and what must happen before a place becomes secure?

Compare the complete first-year commitment

A tuition figure is not automatically an all-in annual cost. Ask for a dated schedule covering the relevant year group, one-off admission or capital charges, meals, transport, examinations, support and optional activities. Separate refundable deposits from non-refundable payments.

TASIS publishes a 2026–27 fee schedule, linked in its profile above. We do not copy a full fee table or present old search-result prices as current quotations. Request the relevant current schedule from each school and compare the same categories.

Confirm current fees and payment terms directly with the school.

Choose a home with the school run in mind

Once you have a viable school option, name the confirmed campus and define a maximum acceptable journey as a preference to test, not a guaranteed drive time. Test arrival and collection separately; a route may work differently at each end of the day.

Keep a fallback plan. A temporary rental, a later completion date or a wider search area may be preferable to buying a poorly suited home to meet an unconfirmed school deadline. These are decisions to discuss with the relevant professionals, not automatic recommendations.
